Far more country club than urban drinking den, the Lanesborough’s Library Bar eschews fashion in favour of a calming, tweed-garbed vision of boozy hospitality far removed from the hubbub of Hyde Park Corner. Nestle in one of the upholstered wingback chairs, admire the floor-to-ceiling bookcases & aristocratic canvases, & wait for one of the smartly dressed, solicitous staff to approach & take your order – it’s all very PG Wodehouse, especially when the open fire is blazing on winter nights. The extensive drinks list is as traditional as the setting, so expect lashings of fine fizz – Dom Pérignon, Krug, Louis Roederer – & cocktails including the Artemis (a signature creation of fresh lychee juice, Parfait Amour, Taittinger & a dash of grenadine). Alternatively, peruse the stupendous Collection of vintage Cognacs (‘liquid history’), single malts & blue-blooded Bordeaux. Complimentary nibbles – such as tiny quiches – add to the sense of wellbeing. |
